Upgrading Your Office: What Are Sidelites?

Upgrading your office and making the space feel brighter and more modern doesn’t have to require major structural changes. It can be as simple as updating your doors and adding sidelites. Sidelites bring in more light and can make an office feel more open. So, what are sidelites? Sidelites are a functional design feature that bring multiple benefits to commercial office spaces.

What Are Sidelites?

Sidelites are fixed glass panels that are installed beside a door. They are a versatile design element that can be used in conference rooms, private offices, reception areas, hallways, break rooms, and more. They are surrounded by a frame and do not swing or slide with the door. There can be one sidelite installed on either side of the door, or you can choose to have one on each side. Sidelites are not just windows. They are incorporated into the door system and are usually the same height as the door.

Sidelites for Commercial Office Design: Benefits of Sidelites

• Allows More Natural Light into Offices and Interior Spaces

If an office doesn’t have any exterior windows, adding a sidelite is a great way to bring in more natural light to the room. Natural light in the workplace has been shown to help boost employees’ moods and increase productivity.

• Makes the Space Feel More Open

A small office can feel stuffy and closed off, especially if there are no exterior windows. Sidelites can create visual openness without sacrificing privacy.

• Modern Style

Sidelites can add more visual appeal. The glass panels framed by our aluminum door systems create a clean, modern look.

• Customizable Glass Options and Configurations

You can choose a single sidelite or a double sidelite. You also have the option of clear, tinted, frosted, or patterned glass. The sidelites can also be equipped with mullions, horizontal or vertical framing elements that separate the glass panes.

If you want to add more visual openness to your office and natural light, sidelites might be the right choice for you.
