Choosing the right interior frames is important in ensuring structural integrity for your commercial space. Frameworks Manufacturing compares our Type I vs. Type II aluminum frames and explains the best applications for each:
Type I
Our Type I aluminum frames are a classic for good reason. As the original framing system in the industry, our Type I systems are modular and screw into sheetrock, requiring only taping and floating to finish. This modular design allows for an exposed top track, eliminating the need for drywall tracks at the top of all partitions. These frames accommodate ¼” and ⅜” glazing and 3 ¾” and 4 ⅞” wall thickness.
Type II
Our Type II door frames, sidelites, and borrowed lite window frames are slightly more versatile than our Type I frames, as they accommodate 3 ½”, 3 ¾”, 4 ⅝”, 4 ⅞”, 5 ¼”, 5 ½”, 6 ⅛”, and 7 ¼” walls. What makes Type II frames so unique is that they are designed for fast-track projects, as they are installed after the walls have been finished and painted. Furthermore, their snap-on trim conceals fasteners for a clean, sleek appearance.
Commercial Applications
Type I frames work best in spaces with more traditional designs, while Type II frames elevate modern spaces. However, both systems can be used in a variety of commercial applications. Type I and II frames are commonly used in schools, universities, hospitals, hotels, and other businesses.
Type I and Type II frames can be paired with systems like our Barn Sliders.
Frameworks Manufacturing specializes in sleek, modern designs with concealed fastenings, rich colors, and recessed glazing pockets to add an architecturally-pleasing design aesthetic to any project.
